"Only in Santa Cruz I can choose from eleven different sandy beaches. Afterall, there’s more 20km of coastline.
The area gathers exclusive conditions for surfing. It’s known for its powerful beach breaks as well as for delivering all year round. It’s rarely flat… and when it is, then there’s no waves elsewhere.
Usually the tides have huge influence on the wave’s formation, which is very characteristic of beach breaks. But there’s different waves scattered that allows one to train a bit of everything… sections for manoeuvres, barrels, aerials…
The peaks I like to surf are:
- at Praia Azul, northern area, with point breaks; and a bit more to the centre, where there’s a a bank for good barrels.
- at Santa Rita, the Southern area, where the sand banks are way more consistent.
- as well as Mirante and Vigia.
… These are the spots I always check before getting inside.
But the best of all is that at any given time of the year I can surf without crowd; and the beaches are always sparkling clean.”
